How to play WhichAges: cards, dates and scoring
Open the game →Choose your game
Start with the daily challenge, a previous challenge or the minigame catalog. For main-game themes, choose the number of rounds. For themed packs, choose a difficulty before pressing Play.
Place cards on the timeline
Read each card’s question and drag it to its time. You can also tap a card to place it on the ruler. On mobile, fine-tuning opens a separate panel: tap Done to return to your hand.
Zoom in and fine-tune the year
The main timeline runs from the Big Bang to the present. Pinch to zoom or use the + and − buttons. Fine-tuning helps you reach the year you want; a minigame timeline covers only the period of its pack.
Lock your guess and check the answer
Place every card before locking. The game reveals dates and shows how close each guess was. Getting the order right alone does not guarantee maximum points: distance from the actual date matters too. Each round is worth up to 100 points.
Share and keep discovering
When you finish, send your result through WhatsApp, your device’s sharing menu or copied text. Daily and past challenge links keep the challenge number. Minigame links share the pack and selected difficulty.
Choosing a good first challenge
If a timeline spanning billions of years feels difficult at first, try a movie or video game minigame. Its shorter period lets you practice the ruler with familiar subjects. Then return to history and science themes. Card dates and names appear after your guesses; revisit them in the album to compare what you have learned.
Questions before you play
Is WhichAges free?
Yes. You can play the daily challenge, practice and explore minigames for free in your browser.
Is my progress saved?
Progress is stored locally in this browser. Closing and reopening normally keeps your data. Clearing site data, changing devices or using another browser does not transfer your save; there is no account synchronization.
Can I play previous challenges?
Yes. Open “Past challenges” on the home screen and choose a previously published challenge. The game records your best local score for each one.
How do I report an incorrect date?
Use “Wrong date?” on a revealed card or in the album. The link opens a report on GitHub; include a source to help check the information. Some cards accept a date range rather than a single year.
